Tata Steel ensures that people who have been relocated find a better quality of life in the Parivar colonies than what they were accustomed to earlier. Sound infrastructure is developed within the colonies and the adjoining areas to enhance the sense of well-being among residing families. Developmental initiatives undertaken by the Company in rural areas of Jajpur district include improvement in educational and health infrastructure, rural connectivity, drinking water supply, electrification in villages among others.

Initiatives like setting up of Community Centres to empower the local youth, construction of concrete roads like the one connecting Tomka to Mangalpur and the road to Bhimtangar Village only proves the Company’s legacy of CSR. Construction of poultry sheds and Market Complex (at Sukindagarh) was taken up to serve the local population. The setting up of electrical sub-station at Kaliapani under operation ‘BIJLI’ and subsequent electrification of Ashok Jhar, a famous tourist spot by Tata Steel has enormously impacted Jajpur District.

Trijanga : A Benchmark in Modern Tribal Township

Trijanga RehabilitationThe Trijanga Rehabilitation Colony is a step forward in Tata Steel’s people-centric development policy and a commitment of its promise to provide better job, better homes, and better lives to relocated families at Kalinganagar. The Company apart from giving 0.1 acres of homestead land and Rs 2.5 lakhs for house construction to relocated families had several rounds of discussions with them while planning for their new home at Trijanga Rehabilitation Colony.

While all the basic amenities like water supply, electricity supply, ration, community space, grain storage facility, children’s recreation park, toilets, welfare office, balwadis, dispensary etc. have been well provided for, the sprawling greenery that has come up in last two years is also a part of Tata Steel’s environment commitment. The colorful houses with dish antennas besides concrete paved roads with avenue plantation and permanent drainage system is only a reflection of Tata Steel’s dedication to usher in a better quality of life for the rehabilitated families in Trijanga.

Some salient features that make Trijanga a benchmark of modern Tribal Township have been discussed below–

Life at Trijanga

Jena Bage’s dream comes true

Jena Bage – Resident of Trijanga Rehabilitation Colony
Jena Bage and his two brothers had been living in a small single house in their village before displacement. Now they have constructed three separate houses in Trijanga-2 colony with the help of Tata Steel. Jena Bage who was a farmer earlier, has undergone mason training through Prerana Programme started by the Company, and is now working in Tata Steel Fabrication yard.

Many modern facilities like safe drinking water and electricity that were not available in the villages have been provided for at Trijanga Rehabilitation Colony. Schools and Balbaris have been set up for children while tribal women have been trained in various income generation programmes.

At Trijanga rehabilitation Colony, rural Odisha and urban Odisha co-exist. Morning starts with young men getting ready to go to work in the Tata Steel fabrication yard while women are either busy in kitchen gardens or in poultry firms.

Community Centres and ‘Jaher Sthan’ (a place for organising religious and cultural functions by the tribal community) have been set up so that Tata Steel Parivar members can continue their own cultural traditions and participate in that of others. Here, festivals like Maghe Parab, Baha and Jomnama are celebrated with equal enthusiasm. Thus, although Trijanga is not the only Rehabilitation Colony created by Tata Steel it is yet a milestone in Tribal Township with a prosperous future ahead.
