Tata Archery AcademySports being a passion in Tata Steel, the Company always strives to upgrade sports infrastructure and support young talent in its existing areas of operations as well as in the upcoming project areas. Following the vision of its founders, today Tata Steel spearheads the corporate promotion of sports at a generic level through its relentless and constant encouragement to professional sportspersons, amateurs and its own employees.

The Company has built two stadiums at Keonjhar and Bolangir districts besides sponsoring various tournaments like the Kalinga Cup, the Utkalika Cup and the Biju Pattnaik Gold Cup. The Tata Steel Sports Feeder Centre (TSFC) at Sansailo in Kalinganagar Industrial Estate, Odisha was also set up in April 2008 with the objective of harnessing and training young sports talents in the State. It is slated to provide basic training in football and archery in a phase wise manner.

Some of the sports initiatives taken specifically in the Kalinganagar Project area have been discussed below.

  • To select talented youngsters for its Feeder Centre at Kalinganagar, Tata Steel organises coaching-cum-talent hunt camps regularly in archery and football in various places of Odisha. Distinguished coaches from the Tata Football Academy (TFA) and Tata Archery Academy (TA) were involved in the process.

  • A total of one hundred and twenty male trainees in football, ninety male and thirty female trainees in archery were trained for 45 days in batches. Tata Sports Feeder Centre at Kalinganagar works in close association with Tata Football Academy (TFA) and Tata Archery Academy (TAA).

  • The training includes boarding facilities, regular health check ups, provision of sports equipment and gear apart from advanced lessons in skills enhancement.

  • In order to nurture rural sports talents and to inculcate a spirit of sportsmanship among the youth, Tata Steel is organising Pragati Inter Village Football league since October 2009. More than 60 teams from the nearby villages take part in the competition.


Tata Football Academy Tata Steel Sports Initiatives

 

Tata Steel Sports Feeder Centre, Duburi

To provide fillip to the tribal sports aspirants of rural and tribal areas of Odisha, Tata Steel set up Tata Steel Sports Feeder Centre (SFC) at Sansailo on April 14, 2008 on Odia New Year day. It seeks to identify and train the rural sporting talents of the state in Football and Archery. Carrying forward the mandate, SFC has successfully managed to train about 330 sports persons, many of whom have managed to shine at the national level. Till date, 12 batches have been imparted training successfully by coaches of national and international repute.


 

Individual Achievements from Tata Steel Feeder Centre at Sansailo


  • Ms. Gitanjali Mahanta and Mr. Mohan Hembram have been selected by Sports Authority of India (SAI) in archery and football respectively.

  • Archer Mahendra has been selected by the State Government‘s Sports Department for monthly sports scholarship.

  • Budhu Hembram & Jhili Parida represented Odisha Archery Team in Junior National level.

  • Sasmita Behera represented Odisha in State Rural National Archery Meet at Coimbatore.

  • Jiten Majhi and Ranjan Parwa have represented Odisha in under-19 State level football at Bhilai, Chhattisgarh.

  • Tata Archery Academy has selected Miss Parida and Chandan Thappa for further training.
