UNDP visit to Kalinganagar A team from UNDP officials visited the resettlement colony at Sansailo on March 31, 2009 with the objective of getting firsthand information on Tata Steel’s R&R programme. Their special focus was on alternative livelihood promotion initiatives undertaken. The team also wanted to know the extent to which R&R policies had been complied with, in relation to mitigating displacement induced impoverishment risks. The UNDP team included Mr. Pieter Bult, Deputy Country Director, UNDP, New Delhi, Ms. Alka Narang, Assistant Country Director, UNDP, New Delhi and Mr. Vikramaditya, UNDP, BBSR. The team was accompanied by the UNDP functionaries working with the R&R Directorate, Government of Orissa and the District Administration Jajpur. During the visit, they interacted with members of Tata Steel Parivar and talked about sustainable livelihood opportunities being provided to them. Before leaving the colony, the delighted team commended the efforts by saying, “Please keep doing the good work. You all have done a marvelous job”. Director General of Police), visited the Gobarghati Rehabilitation Colony in July 2010. He was accompanied by Smt. Tulasi Munda and renowned social activist Mr. A. V. Swamy. They were impressed with the quality of life offered to displaced families through initiatives undertaken by Tata Steel and commended the various programmes undertaken in the sphere of education, healthcare and art & culture. |

Dr. Tulasi Munda has over the years earned a position of great respect through her dedicated improvement missions in the state of Odisha. Recognising her efforts, the Govt. of India conferred the prestigious Padmashree award on her in the year 2001. Dr. Munda is exploring means of improving the economic condition of the tribal-rural populace by bringing to them the benefits of various developmental schemes that are being undertaken specifically for their cause. As a significant step in her overall mission, Tulasi Munda visited Tata Steel Parivar members in order to get direct information about the R&R programme and how it has actually affected the relocated people.
